Przemyslaw Dudys
Electrical Design Engineer – Electrification & Applied ResearchWhat do you work with?
I work as an Electrical Design Engineer at our Head Office in Umeå, Sweden, and I am involved in all aspects of the electrical installations in the forest machines - electrical diagrams, installation of components and cable routing, which nowadays is a great challenge since electrical systems are getting more and more complex.
How did you end up at Komatsu Forest and in Umeå?
I am originally from Krakow in Poland, where I studied Mechatronics, and then worked as an Electrical Engineer with railway vehicles. As an outdoor enthusiast it was important for me to live close to nature - hence the decision to move to northern Sweden. At the same time it was also important for me to find a job that matched my work experience and interests. I have always been fascinated by forest machines and when I saw that Komatsu Forest was focusing on Electrification, I knew that this could be a great match for me.
What is the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is that I get to be involved in all stages of developing a new machine, from pre-study to the build of a concept machine and testing, working on a prototype, and finally bringing it to serial production. Seeing the actual results of my design work in the form of a working machine is incredibly rewarding, it also gives us the possibility to see the areas which need to be improved.
The advanced technology and the complexity of our machines makes the work very interesting and engaging. I also work with an experienced team; everyone is really nice and we learn a lot from each other. We have a good atmosphere, and it is always easy to ask for input or help. Everyone also has a big focus on quality, which is important to me.
What do you think about Umeå, and what do you do on your spare time?
I think Umeå has everything that I am looking for, here everything is close. I wanted to live somewhere where I felt close to nature but also that could offer an interesting job. There are also many interesting cultural events in Umeå throughout the year. I really like outdoor activities and have started skiing and fishing since I moved here. The newfound fishing interest might have something to do with me getting a fish after only two minutes my first time - after that I was hooked. I also enjoy hiking and find that there is always something fun to do. I share many of these interests with the colleagues in my team - which is fun!
